Bungee jump has always been on my list. My trip to South Africa, got much more exciting with a thought of doing it.The jump organized by Face Adrenalin in Tsitsikama from the Bloukrans Bridge, is the highest bridge bungee jump in the world at 216 metres (709 ft) above the Bloukrans River.Driving through the scenic Garden Route on my way to Port Elizabeth from Cape Town,
I stopped by the Bloukrans bridge in the nature’s valley. I was barely prepared for the jump. After signing my life away (I’m kidding, they are the safest company in the world, no one has ever been injured or have died), I got harnessed up. I then sat and waited for my turn to take the plunge.
The weather was a bit murky and I was worried the rain would impinge on my bungee plans – but luckily it wasn’t windy.
While I was waiting for the doors of the bridge to open for me, the guys from The Face Adrenalin team shared their experiences and did their best to motivate me.
Moments later, I walked over the caged-in walkway which was an experience on its own, I reached the platform from where I had to jump. There was a positive vibe and an energizing atmosphere, they made jokes and took pictures with me and jammed to the music.
I was asked to sit on a stool where they fastened my ankle straps, tightened the padding and attached the back-up harness around my shoulders and waist.
As I was strapped and fastened for the jump, two guys then grabbed me under each shoulder and lead me to The Platform. The guys then positioned me so that my toes were sticking over the edge.
At this point I was terrified, but focused.
My heart started pounding as the countdown began 3…2…1… BUNGEEE…. The next moment I was swinging upside down. I felt like a free bird, had a mixed feeling of fear and joy.
Now, I laugh at myself for being so scared of the idea of bungy jumping, it was undoubtedly one of the best experiences of my life and I got to share it with hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
Although I can’t convince you, I can only tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed my first bungee experience and how strongly I urge you to face your fears and conquer them.
