On Republic Day, the glorious Delhi event is the first thing that pops up. The highlight of the celebration is the 5 kilometres long Republic Day parade, beginning from the Rasina Hill near Rashtrapati Bhavan and ending near the Red Fort. Escorted by bodyguards on horses, the President of India arrives at the event followed by placing a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate by the Prime Minister of India to pay tribute to all the heroes who we lost in wars.

The parade, consisting of cultural displays from around the world, commences after the President, as the National Anthem begins, unfurls the National Flag which is supported with a 21-gun salute. The second most prestigious event in the program is the Award ceremony. Not only are bravery awards given to officials from the armed forces but courageous civilians, are also granted with the Paramvir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Children’s National Bravery Award, by the President.

With the ticket price ranging between INR 20 to INR 500 which can be booked between January 7 to January 25, to be a part of the parade, one must follow specific instructions. From not bringing any electronic devices to the event as it is prohibited, to wearing a jacket in the morning due to the weather, Delhi Parade begins at 9 am, so make sure to be there as early to catch a decent seat and parking.

After Delhi, it is Kolkata that celebrates Republic Day in a grand style. The parade begins at 8:30 am, is a set out alongside the historic Red Road which lies in front of the Fort William in Kolkata’s Maidan which includes military bands, the march of the armed forces, presentation of weapons etc. So, if one misses out on attending the Delhi Celebration, then Kolkata is the place to experience the ‘Parade’.

Taking place at the Rabindra Sarovar Lake is the Republic Day Run. Put on your sports shoes and be a part of this event on January 26, 2020 between 9 am to 12 pm. The entry fee costs INR 300.

The spectacular celebration for the January 26 in Chennai takes place at Marina Beach and Kamaraj Salai followed by an impressive parade, with 8 am being the reporting time for the attendees. All the motorcycle enthusiasts put on their helmets to take part in the Republic Day rides by Chennai Bulls. A mixture of Patriotism and Adventure, this joyride begins at 6 am at Elliot’s Beach Besant Nagar. One can register on the spot.
